This can vary per the application, however typically we use pure bred dogs, and a few mixes as follows...

| Certainly a lot of breeds can do bitework and some people use other breeds frequently. We typically use the German Shepherd as our go to dog for bite work, however we have used all the above. And are not limited to these breeds only. | Any dog can track and a lot of breeds can do scent work. We wouldn't be opposed to training certain other breeds but fact is a lot of departments ask for the breeds above. Again really depends on the application. |

There are breeds that cannot do the work and there are dogs from the breeds above who cannot do the work. We get people who want to use thrie current dog, usually a pet, from breeds that cannot work. If your dog has been a pet it might not work in addition most people aren't willing to make the change in lifestyle to make it a working dog.
